The highlight of JVC’s presence at NAB 2009 was the GY-HM700, though the company made many other announcements at the show, among these.
GY-HM700 ProHD Camcorder
The highlight of JVC’s presence at NAB 2009 was the GY-HM700, its latest compact shoulder-supported professional camcorder developed for mainstream production, electronic newsgathering and cinematography. The new camera records directly to inexpensive SDHC memory cards in the QuickTime (.MOV) format for Final Cut Pro, and optionally to SxS media compatible with Sony's XDCAM EX format. Recording in the editing system's native format eliminates the time-consuming transfer step and dramatically speeds up the postproduction workflow. Additionally, the GY-HM700 includes a number of key technology innovations that result in significantly improved resolution in the camera's core components: the CCD/optical block, lens and viewfinder.
GY-HM100 ProHD Camcorder
JVC's GY-HM100, a member of the ProHD family of products, is a professional handheld camcorder that records files to solid-state media in the native format of Apple's Final Cut Pro editing system, allowing recorded material to be edited directly from solid-state memory cards, dramatically reducing the amount of time required to edit footage. The GY-HM100 is available now, with a suggested list price of $3,995.
GD-463D10 Full-HD 3D LCD Monitor
JVC unveiled a large, full-HD 3D LCD monitor for professional use at NAB. The 46-inch GD-463D10, slated for release in July 2009, is 1.5 in. thick and uses JVC’s high-quality 3D visual engine to deliver a natural, flicker-free visual experience. JVC plans to produce 2,000 units of the GD-463D10 per year for the global market.
The GD-463D10 provides flicker-free 3D images by adopting the Xpol polarizing filter method and battery-free passive-type circular polarizing filter glasses. Video input is compatible with industry-standard line-by-line and side-by-side 3D formats. JVC’s unique 3D decoder circuit translates images into the optimal Xpol display format and demonstrates the ability to accommodate subtle gradations and shades of color.
KY-F4000 Real-Time 4K Camera
JVC provided a glimpse into the world of ultra-high-resolution imaging with a live demonstration of its KY-F4000 real-time 4K camera. Live 60p images from the KY-F4000 were displayed on JVC’s new 56-inch LCD panel with 4K resolution. The compact KY-F4000 camera features a single 1.25-inch CMOS image sensor of 3840x2160 pixels capable of producing live images with four times the resolution of full HD.
The KY-F4000 features ultra-high-resolution imaging, with a 60-progressive-frame live output capability, including HD-SDI Dual Link (4:2:2/10-bit 4-ch) and DVI Single Link (4:4:4/8-bit x 4-ch). The camera also features a built-in genlock input, HD-SDI 1080 (60i/59.94i). Additional specifications include an RGB Bayer color filter and switchable 60p/59.94 frame rate. A Nikon F-mount was used for the demonstration.
GM-F Series HD LCD Displays
JVC's GM-F Series LCD HD displays combine intelligent technology with functionality. With full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels), enhanced motion sensor technology, strong contrast ratio and a slim front bezel (15mm on 42- and 47-inch models, 17mm on 52-inch model), JVC’s GM-F series is ideal for professional applications where reliability, robustness and high image quality are imperative. The three new models from JVC—the 42-inch GM-F420S, 47-inch GM-F470S and 52-inch GM-F520S—will have broad appeal for security and control room applications, for digital signage solutions in the retail and hotel industries, for public exhibition in schools and museums, and for bulletin board and broadcast viewing situations.
