Avid made several announcements at NAB 2009. A link to each of the news items is below.
Third-Party Integration
Avid unveiled a number of new integrations with third parties designed to give customers more infrastructure and format flexibility within their broadcast and postproduction workflows. Omneon, Panasonic, Sony and RED are among the companies that will demonstrate new workflow integrations with Avid at the NAB this week. This collaborative development is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to provide open solutions that work with a majority of third-party formats, plug-ins and technologies, ultimately placing greater flexibility and choice in customers’ hands.
New Branding
At NAB 2009, Avid unveiled a new brand identity as part of the company’s business transformation to better serve the interests and needs of its audio and video customers. At the center of Avid’s brand identity is a new logo, which represents how “Avid is coming together as one company with new offerings, a new strategy and a new operating model," according to Gary Greenfield, chairman and CEO of Avid.
Apple Final Cut Pro Qualification
As part of its continuing efforts to provide customers with flexible and open solutions, Avid announced at NAB that it has qualified Apple Final Cut Pro editing solutions to run on Avid Unity MediaNetwork and ISIS shared storage systems. Post facilities, broadcasters and other media content creation organizations using Final Cut Pro can now take advantage of the shared storage and collaborative workflow capabilities of Avid Unity and ISIS, and benefit from simultaneously running Avid and Final Cut Pro editing solutions on the same shared storage system. These newly-supported and highly-tested workflows will enable customers to centralize storage on a single solution, streamline operations and cost-effectively manage production workflows.
Improved Support Programs
At NAB, Avid introduced a family of flexible support programs designed to address the needs of the company’s full spectrum of audio and video customers—ranging from home enthusiasts to large media enterprises. Support packages offer services that cover a vast range of Avid products—each tailored to address the specific business and technology needs of customers. Presenting one menu of support services is the latest in a series of steps that reflects Avid’s ongoing transformation to integrate its five businesses and better serve customers.
Avid Deko 3000 v5.2
Avid unveiled version 5.2 of Avid Deko 3000, an on-air graphics package that supports the industry-standard FBX and Collada formats, enabling customers to easily import and play back a broader range of 3D models and animations from applications such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Softimage 7.5 and MAXON CINEMA 4D. Customers can leverage existing skills and toolsets without having to burden staff with learning new 3D tools. This announcement represents another milestone in Avid’s advancements to provide more open solutions for customers.
