Side Effects Software announced the winners of the Houdini Apprentice Challenge at the Houdini Annual Meeting held yesterday during the SIGGRAPH convention in San Diego, Calif. The contest winners are:
Best Overall: Matthew Clubb for "BMW 507"
Best Model: David Rindner for "Cthullu Centaur"
Best Character: Andre De Souza for "Wheely"
Best Effect: Kim Seung Hyuk for "Smoke"
The Houdini Challenge attracted an incredible array of entries from animators all over the world, with winning entries selected by a panel of industry professionals hailing from c.o.r.e
. Digital Pictures, Digital Domain, Framestore-CFC, Jim Henson's Creature Shop, PDI/Dreamworks, Rhythm & Hues and Sony Pictures Imageworks. Co-sponsored by Hewlett Packard and ATI Technologies, the Houdini Apprentice Challenge was aimed at uncovering new animation talent for leading studios that use Houdini solutions within their visual effects pipelines.
Houdini Apprentice has been recently enhanced to include the latest Houdini 6.1 functionality, and can be downloaded from the Side Effects Web site. New versions of Houdini Apprentice on CD are also available on the SIGGRAPH exhibit floor in several Side Effects Software partner booths including: 3D Labs Inc. (#2814), ATI Technologies Inc. (#2936), Hewlett-Packard (#2115) and Intel (#1901).
