AJA Video Intros Io
By Staff, September 13, 2003

Making its first appearance at SIGGRAPH 2003 is AJA Video's award-winning Io, the first uncompressed audio/video FireWire capture device for Final Cut Pro
4. Io will be demonstrated in AJA's booth (number 3215) at Siggraph this week. Io is a high-end, 8 or 10-bit broadcast video device that allows a user
to connect professional analog or digital audio/video to an Apple Power Mac G4 or G5 computer.

Developed in close cooperation with Apple, Io is designed to take advantage of the many new features of Final Cut Pro 4. The new I/O framework and
new 8 and 10-bit broadcast quality Pro codecs of Final Cut Pro 4, combined with the input and output capabilities of Io, provide users with a
powerful, flexible, and affordable solution for uncompressed SD editing on the Mac in a professional broadcast or production environment

. Until
recently, these powerful editing capabilities have been limited to larger, and many times more expensive, editing systems.

"We are now entering the era where desktop computers and editing software have enough power to process effects on uncompressed SD video in Real
Time," said John Abt, president of AJA Video Systems. "Io is an interface box built for this new era. As long as SDI and component video are still
around, Io will continue to be a viable product enabling desktop editing at a superior price performance and ease of use."

Io connects to the Mac with one 400mb Fire Wire cable with nothing to install inside the Mac. Io supports 10-bit component and composite analog
video, SDI digital video, multiple audio formats including balanced and unbalanced analog, AES/EBU digital, optical ADAT, optical S/PDIF, RS-422
machine control, and genlock. Io's sleek, silver box was designed to complement Apple's Xserve and Xserve RAID in a rack, or sit conveniently on a
desktop.

Io is made in the USA and carries a three-year, unconditional warranty. The suggested retail cost of Io in the U.S. is $2,290.
