DMT Rentals has added two vintage AMS Neve Model 1081 Channel Amplifiers, combination mic pre-amplifiers, and EQ modules to its inventory of converters, recorders, and outboards. "The Model 1081 was first produced in 1972," says DMT President Doug Botnick. "The same circuit provided the mic/line-amp and EQ sections in much-revered Neve consoles such as the 8048."
A glance through the credits on many of today's best-selling CDs reveals that such consoles are still widely used to great effect, and that the 1081 module has become a hugely popular design classic. "As a result, AMS Neve has resumed production of the 1081 module, using original components and construction methods. The result is outstanding; an open, clear mic sound with one of the sweetest EQ sections ever built," Botnick adds.
According to the Model 1081's 1972 product literature: "This versatile instrument not only provides a wide range control of sensitivity and effective high- and low-pass filters designed to separate unwanted signal outside the pass band, but also gives the operator a flexible tool to create new sounds and control any part of the audio spectrum."
The Model 1081 is totally enclosed and fully screened, with covers on both sides to provide easy access
. AMS Neve utilizes high-grade, conservatively rated components throughout, with all active circuitry mounted on plug-in PCBs for high reliability and minimum down time.
"Our new units are supplied as a stand-alone module," continues Jayce Murphy, DMT's GM, "containing two individual 1081's mounted horizontally in a 3U rack-mounting chassis. Located on the rear panel are XLRs for the transformer-balanced I/Os, a 25-way D-type connector for solo, spare switch contacts and unbalanced outputs, plus an IEC power connector."
"We purchased the 1081 modules because they quite simply have an extraordinary sound," Botnick explains.
DMT offers 24 hour-a day-national and international delivery and technical support.
