Sound Lounge Mixes American Express Spot with Scorsese
By Elina Shatkin, September 30, 2003

Sound Lounge engineer Tom Jucarone handled the audio mix for a new American Express spot in which director Martin Scorsese pays a visit to the local One Hour Photo studio. Jucarone, who performed the work on a Digidesign Pro Tools|HD digital audio workstation, mixed the dialogue between Scorsese and the clerk, and ambient sounds of the store environment to create the spot's insular sound environment.

Conceived by Ogilvy & Mather, New York, One Hour Photo finds Scorsese in a New York drug store picking up snapshots from his nephew's fifth birthday party

. A well known perfectionist, Scorsese becomes increasingly discouraged as he thumbs through the pictures of kids and birthday cake and ultimately concludes he needs to reshoot. He phones the boy and asks, "Timmy…how would you like to turn five again?" The spot has a tie-in with New York Tribeca Film Festival, where American Express it the official card.
