Fujitsu Limited announced the global release of a new high-performance hard disk drive for high-end mobile PCs, the MHT20xxAH, which features a storage capacity of up to 80Gb and a rotational speed of 5400rpm in a 2.5" compact form factor. With a rotational speed of 5400rpm, the new hard drive reduces average latency by 22% compared to Fujitsu's previous model, the 4200rpm MHT20xxAT. The new drive's buffer size has also been increased from 2MB to 8MB, resulting in higher throughput
.
The new drive comes with storage capacities of 40Gb, 60Gb, or 80Gb to suit a variety of customer needs. While primarily targeted at the high-end mobile PC market, it offers enough speed and capacity for use in blade servers and other market applications.
As with previous models, the new hard drive uses GDT (Glass Direct Texture) Media technology, enabling it to boast top class areal density of 69Gb per square inch.
The MHT20xxAH will begin sample shipments in late June. The company has targeted worldwide sales of 200,000 units in FY2003 and 400,000 units in FY2004.
