Edirol and Passion Take Video Performance to a New Level for the 2003 Experience Tour
By Elina Shatkin, November 11, 2003

The Passion Experience Tour is not something you watch but an experience you participate in. That experience is greatly augmented and supported by dynamic and spontaneous visuals with the help of Edirol products.

Six large rear-projection screens are spread horizontally across the stage back wall. Feeding this array of projectors are seven Edirol V-4 Video Mixers. The inputs to the seven projectors are controlled by a single G4 PowerBook running a MIDI controller "ensemble" created using Native Instrument's Reaktor (a program typically used to created software synthesizers - PC or Mac). The G4 talks to each V-4 mixer via a single USB cable attached to the Edirol USB 8x8 MIDI Interface (UM-880) that is connected in turn to each V-4 via MIDI cables

.

Video loops are fired from two Edirol DV-7PR units. These devices allow on-demand & spontaneous, full frame, uncompressed digital video clips to be selected via touchscreen.

In addition to a backstage camera, four robotic stage cameras are controlled from the video front of house position and run to each of the four center screens via the respective V-4. At certain times throughout the evening, specially created images that stretch across all six screens are sent via six synchronized DVD players. An additional G3 PowerBook running ProPresenter provides lyrics to each of the V-4 mixers. The Edirol V-4's luminance key function allows the black background of the lyrics to be replaced by any of the other inputs coming to the respective video mixer.
