AICP Announces New Music Category; Will Accept Internet Entries(3)
By Elina Shatkin, January 2, 2004

The New Year will usher in an expanded Call for Entries to the AICP Show, The Art & Technique of the American Television Commercial, with a new category recognizing musical arrangements, and an opportunity for show entrants to submit their spots over the internet, via Beam TV.

This is the 13th annual AICP Show, an event of the Association of Independent Commercial Producers that celebrates the craft of commercial film production and the professionals whose visions shape the industry. The Call for Entries will be available online January 5, 2004. The deadline for entries is Friday, February 13, 2004.

Established in 1992, in cooperation with The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the AICP Show recognizes excellence in commercial filmmaking, focusing on technical expertise and the artistic application of that expertise. The honored commercials are made part of the permanent archives of the museum’s Department of Film and Media. During MoMA’s recent reconstruction, the Show moved its debut to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City

. 2004 will be the Show’s last year at the Met before returning to MoMA in its newly renovated quarters in 2005. The Show premiere will take place June 14th at the Met.

The new category was proposed to the AICP Show Board of Governors by members of AMP, the Association of Music Producers, which is an affiliate of AICP. The addition of Musical Arrangement, defined as “a uniquely creative arrangement or adaptation of a pre-existing musical work with or without lyrics,” raises the total number of Show categories to 24.
