FOR-As 1M/E Hanabi Switcher Makes American Debut
By Elina Shatkin, February 4, 2004

FOR-A Corporation of America continues to expand its Hanabi switcher series with the introduction of the new Hanabi HVS-1000HS. The HVS-1000HS is a one-mix/effect version of the two-M/E Hanabi HVS-3000H/S digital HD or SD switcher. The HVS-1000HS supports 1080i, 24p, 720p and standard-definition formats.

The new HVS-1000HS switcher is a compact, 2RU-high unit for use wherever space is at a premium. The SD/HD switchable, multibit, multiformat feature is ideal for telecine, production, postproduction applications as well as broadcasting. Two types of operation units are available for different applications -- the HVS-1000EOU and HVS-1000LOU. The HVS-1000EOU is designed for editing and in-studio applications, and the HVS-1000LOU is well suited for OB (van) and live production.

One DVE card comes preinstalled on the HVS-1000HS. And an additional optional DVE card can be installed for increased flexibility on both the SD and HD version. On the SD switchers, this increases the capacity to two channels of DVE from each card. On the HD switchers, an optional DVE card provides one DVE channel.

The new switcher comes standard with eight inputs and can be configured for up to 16 inputs

. Four still pictures can be stored in frame memory, and the HVS-1000HS features five standard outputs (PGM x 2, PVW x 1, AUX x 1, input preview x 1). It is optionally expandable to seven outputs. One channel of key is also standard. Up to three independent key layers and key-edge/shadow generators are available. The two optional keys can be used for chroma-key operations.

Clarity will also showcase the two-mix/effect version, HVS-3000H. The Hanabi HVS-3000H is an HD switcher that includes optional multichannel DVE. At 3RU tall, it is well suited for OB vans and live-production applications. Up to two DVE cards can be installed in an HVS-3000H, providing a total of two DVEs throughout the system. A total of six independent key layers (three per M/E) is available. Key-edge and shadow generators are available for key 1 and key 2 on each M/E, and key 2 of each M/E can be used for chroma-key operations. Four control panels can be interfaced to one main unit to set up productions from multiple locations. The Hanabi series also includes an SD model, the Hanabi HVS-3000S, which features up to four channels of DVE.

The switchers will be shown in America during NAB this year.
