Tektronix Delivers Waveform Monitor for Avid NLEs
By Elina Shatkin, March 30, 2004

Tektronix, Inc., a provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced the WFMNLE, a software waveform monitor plug-in for the Avid Media Composer Adrenaline, Avid XPress Pro, Media Composer, and Symphony nonlinear editing and finishing systems. The new plug-in is an easy-to-use, flexible and non-intrusive tool that enables editors to confidently verify signal and picture quality.

Using a waveform monitor during the editing process can be difficult and time-consuming. Tektronix' new WFMNLE saves editors time by facilitating the editing process and catching errors before distribution. As a software plug-in, the WFMNLE brings Tektronix' quality and trust directly into the Media Composer Adrenaline, Avid Xpress Pro, Media Composer, and Symphony systems at a fraction of the cost of stand-alone, hardware-based waveform monitors. WFMNLE is the only software-based waveform monitor that provides a "quick-at-a glance" status alarm screen, picture screen with gamut error bright-ups, and error logging

. For more in-depth monitoring, the WFMNLE has traditional waveform/vector displays that are comparable to what is found on hardware waveform monitors.

Tektronix' Software Waveform Monitoring In NLE Systems
The WFMNLE monitors content in the RECORD window of the NLE with displays that include waveform, parade (YCbCr and RGB), field, Y-only, vector, and the ability for the user to select 1-line, all-lines, or variable number of lines (consecutive) for the waveform, vector, gamut and picture displays. Also available are Tektronix-exclusive gamut displays - Diamond and Arrowhead.

A user-friendly interface includes user selectable dual side-by-side views, placement anywhere within the NLE application or outside the application on the desktop, user-adjustable threshold settings, and a host of other features. Tektronix' WFMNLE also contains a very simple video waveform monitoring tutorial to assist users who may not be familiar with video monitoring practices. The WFMNLE supports Windows and Mac OS 10.x operating systems.

Tektronix' WFMNLE is available today as a free 60-day demo, which can be downloaded at: http://www.tek.com/Measurement/App_Notes/indexes/video_audio/registration/index.html. After the 60-day period, users can elect to purchase an authorization key to keep the WFMNLE software active on their system. The software is priced at $1,250.
