PESA Switching Systems, Inc., a provider of analog and digital video and audio equipment, announced that at NAB2004 the company is demonstrating the world's first photonic routing switcher integrated with a PESA routing control system. The system is called XD because it will switch any signal format, including video signals of any definition, and deliver completely transparent connections between any of its input fibers and output fibers without converting light to electrical signals. The new fiber optic routing switcher solution has been developed in partnership with Glimmerglass Networks.
The 64x64 XD solution being demonstrated is a pure fiber optic photonic switcher that integrates Glimmerglass' patented Brilliance microphotonics technology with PESA's versatile 3500PRO control system for superior performance and control functionality in long-distance video-distribution applications
.
The XD allows for up to 64x64 connections and serves as the first all-fiber switcher to deliver transparent connections, with no conversion to electrical signals in the box. Capable of distributing signals over distances up to 20 km while using only 35 W of power, the new photonic switcher provides support for all SMPTE data-rate standards and any audio, video, multicast, or data format type. The system allows for easy routing around network outages by automatically reconfiguring fiber links at the physical layer.
PESA's 3500PRO routing switch control system is a Windows-based user interface that provides a fully featured control architecture for maximum versatility in both control and diagnostic use. The 3500PRO interface offers an extensive set of user-configurable menus, giving the system uniquely intuitive navigability.
The XD photonic switcher will be on display along with other PESA products at the NAB2004 exhibition, April 19-22 in Las Vegas.
