da Vinci Systems today announced the winners of the inaugural Master Colorist Awards competition, comprised of four categories including TV and long form, theatrical release, commercial, and music video reels. Introduced for the first time this year, the awards recognize colorists' innovative and skillful use of da Vinci's film enhancement and restoration tools.
In the category of TV and long-form reels, Gareth Cook of Encore Hollywood won for a submission from "The District," episode 415
. In the theatrical release category, Nico Mueller Ilies of Technicolor, Montreal, won for his work on "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," completed in conjunction with Sparkle in TCS-Hollywood and Stephen Nakamura at TDI. The Master Colorist Award winner for the commercial category was Bob Festa of R!OT Santa Monica. David Hussey of Company 3, Santa Monica, won the music video category for his work on Grammy award-nominated video "Hey Ya" by Outkast.
The winning colorists were honored at an awards ceremony at da Vinci's booth at NAB2004.
