Thousands Gather at First Ever Entertainment Media Expo
By Staff, September 10, 2004

The first Entertainment Media Expo (EMX) — presented by the Media-Tech Association and co-produced by CMP Information, Inc. and the International Recording Media Association (IRMA) — was held August 30 - September 1 and drew a registered crowd of 3,028 packaged video, audio, and game professionals to the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles, CA
. EMX combined several well-established shows, including DVD Entertainment, the Media-Tech Conference, Surround 2004, the Entertainment Packaging Summit, Entertainment Asset Management, and the International Disc Duplication Association conference, and placed them in a can’t-miss event in the heart of Hollywood.

EMX took over the Renaissance Hollywood complex, with attendees selling out hotel rooms, and demos, exhibits, conference sessions, and networking events taking place throughout the facility — from the ground floor Babylon Court, where Harman Infotainment and DTS displayed their surround sound demo vehicle, to the fifth floor Grand Ballroom, which housed a busy exhibit floor of more than 119 companies.

Many took advantage of EMX’s conference sessions and demo rooms to experience the new technologies they had only heard about first-hand, including Dual-Disc, Blu-ray Disc, and HD-DVD. Numerous attendees also took part in Apple, Sonic, and Digidesign’s day-long training sessions.

In addition to the conference sessions, demo rooms, and exhibits, EMX also hosted the 7th Annual DVD Awards with Leonard Maltin, the 3rd Annual Surround Music Awards, and the 2nd Annual “Alex” Packaging Awards — each with its own gala event held each evening of EMX.
