The New York City Final Cut Pro user group is two years running this month, and a marker of many milestones. To date, the NYC FCP UG has existed by the sheer will of its current leader, Michael Vitti.
To keep the NYC FCP UG fresh, Vitti wants to diversify the group's leadership and seek more substantial financial support. One option is to install elected board members and increase volunteerism. Another option is an annual membership fee, something like $20 per year per person. This would allow us the group to build a new website, get the database online, purchase equipment liability insurance and general liability which we've depended on from the venues.
These issues will be considered next week at both Tuesday & Thursday's meetings.
Tuesday Meeting
Story Masters, Tues, 14 Sept, 6:30 - 8:00pm @ NYU, 15 Barclay St
Show & Tell
• Antonio de La Cruz, 107th Street, www.nylatinofilm.com/descriptions.htm
107 Street is about a NYC neighborhood. The film was conceived, written, stars, financed and was shot in this two block area by Mr. de la Cruz and company, who by the way grew up in this neigborhood. His parents still live there as well as his friends. Three vignettes, "The Domino Players," "The Secret Miracle" and "Point of View," are linked by telephone conversations being surreptitiously listened to by Marcos, the main character.
Navigating the sometimes fine line between comedy and tragedy, "107 Street" not only richly illustrates the particulars of ethnic life in one pulsating New York City neighborhood, it explores that world's universality.
