Agencies to be Recognized in Ceremony at GV Expo
By Staff, September 21, 2004

From national military campaigns to local programs, this year's Government Video Star Award recipients include a diverse group of outstanding video projects. Nine videos from eight agencies have been selected to receive the award, and the winners will be recognized at a special ceremony during GV Expo on

Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. in the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

The Government Video Star Awards recognize outstanding video projects in training, promotional, and news/information categories. Dozens of entries were received, and three videos from each category were chosen to receive an award.

"This year's group of winners has it all," said Mark J. Pescatore, executive conference chair and editor of Government Video. "We've got a video that explores shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, one that trains people how to look for signs of abuse, and even a recruitment video for law enforcement. These are very well produced programs that really represent the high quality of video projects in the public sector."

In the third year of competitive categories, Multnomah Community Television, which provides public access, education, and government programming in the Gresham, OR, area, received awards in two categories this year. It shared the training category with winning projects from the Social Security Administration in Chicago and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Multnomah's second award was in the news/information category, which also included videos from the U.S. Army Training Center in Fort Eustis, VA, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Silver Spring, MD

. Outstanding promotional entries came from Henrico County, VA, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas, TX, and the U.S. Air Force 367th Training Support Squad at Hill AFB, UT.

This year's award presentation will be immediately followed by a keynote address from Armando Oliu, lead for NASA's Pre-launch Inspection Teams and lead for the Post-launch Kennedy Space Center's Image Analysis Team. His presentation, "Return to Flight: NASA Image Analysis," will explore the space agency's use of film and video to support missions. As part of last year's STS-107 Columbia investigation, he led the team that re-reviewed all ascent imagery during the recovery period.

The Government Video Star Awards ceremony and keynote address are free for all registered GV Expo attendees.
