. The edit was comprised of 300 hours of original source material that had been archived over the past 30 years.
Using original and archival interviews with nearly 70 artists ranging from Grandmaster Flash and Chuck D to Missy Elliott, the series follows the rise of hip-hop music from an underground sensation to a mainstream influence. Writer/producer of the series, Bill Adler, is a hip-hop historian who has worked for Rush Artist Management and DefJam Recordings.
The challenge of the online edit was working with archival material that had a wide range of production value, some of the earlier footage required restoration with demanding color correction, which was carefully set to generate a unique and consistent look for the documentary series.
