Omneon Spectrum Media Server Supports Sci Fi Channel Playout for CNBC Europe
By Staff, September 20, 2005

Omneon Video Networks announced that CNBC Europe has deployed an Omneon Spectrum media server system for transmission of all content for NBC Universal's Sci Fi channel. The new Omneon system, installed at CNBC Europe's London facility, plays out movies, interstitials, commercials, and programming for broadcast across the U.K. to the eight million viewers on the Sky pay-TV platform.

An exceptionally cost-effective and flexible media server designed for the professional television industry, the Omneon Spectrum media server provides a reliable and scalable infrastructure for broadcast playout and storage applications

. Integration of CNBC Europe's new Omneon Spectrum system with Pebble Beach Neptune automation has allowed the network to run the Sci Fi channel solely from a single server system.

The distributed architecture of the modular Omneon Spectrum server system provides easy expansion capability, giving CNBC Europe a simple and affordable means of scaling system components and capacity in small or large increments as the facility's playout requirements change. The server system currently has two terabytes of storage and will expand easily to support the launch of additional channels in the future.
