CBS Stations to Adopt HD Version of Sonys XDCAM Pro Disc System
By Staff, February 3, 2006

CBS owned-and-operated stations in Boston and Chicago will begin their implementation of Sony's high-definition XDCAM Professional Disc system in March. The other 15 stations in the CBS family will begin converting to XDCAM HD throughout 2006 and 2007.

CBS has been at the forefront of many HD firsts, including being the first network to broadcast an NFL game in 1998, underwritten by Sony. It was also the first to broadcast a major golf tournament, The
Masters, in HD, also underwritten by Sony; the first network to convert their primetime programming to HDTV in 1999, and the first network to convert a daytime drama, The Young and the Restless, to high definition in 2001

.

In October 2005, CBS News began acquiring and accepting content using the Sony optical system, resulting in a significantly streamlined news operations and production workflow that allows footage to be shot, edited and sent to air in a faster and more efficient manner.

CBS Television comprises the CBS Television Network, with more than 200 owned and affiliated stations reaching virtually every television home in the U.S.
