rOOm, a full service creative media design and commercial advertising, music, film and video post production facility, has announced the completion of post production for the debut video for Rob Zombie’s new record, Educated Horses, to be released March 28 on Geffen Records. Creative editorial for the video for the album’s first single, “Foxy Foxy,” was completed by rOOm’s editor Jeff Selis with DS artist Bill Pollock providing additional visual effects (VFX) and on-line finishing work and Jason Barager producing.
Selis is known for his commercial work for Honda, Reebok and Nissan, over two hundred videos by top artists like Velvet Revolver, 50 Cent and Eminem and an array of acclaimed directors including Anthony Mandler, Kevin Kerslake, and Chris Robinson. Bill Pollock has worked his VFX and finishing magic on commercials for Honda, Budweiser and MTV, long-form concert DVDs by artists like Faith Hill and Stone Temple Pilots, and over one hundred music videos for artists including The Offspring, G-Unit, 50 Cent and Eminem. Both have previously collaborated with Zombie on numerous projects including music videos for his 1998 record, Hellbilly Deluxe, and 2001’s Sinister Urges. The pair’s talent, skill and long-standing creative relationship with Zombie made them obvious choices to complete this newest undertaking by the noted master of heavy metal macabre.
“Foxy Foxy” finds Zombie taking a bit of a different path than what he is usually known for doing. For the video, he teamed with cinematographer Phil Parmet, with whom he worked on his 2005 horror action feature, The Devil’s Rejects
. Parmet also worked on Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same" and Frank Zappa's "Baby Snakes.” Zombie’s band, which features former Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5, is depicted playing live in a wilderness field with the focus placed squarely on the group and its music. However, in a typical Zombie motif, the aid of a carload of beautiful girls also appears to lend some gyrating and seductive visual support that complements the hard pounding percussive tempos, searing guitar riffs and Zombie’s signature snarling vocals.
After editing, the footage went into rOOm’s finishing and visual effects suite which is equipped with an Avid DS Nitris HD. The platform offers multi-stream, 10-bit uncompressed HD and SD finishing and mastering capabilities as well as 2K/4K file-based editing with real-time 2K playback. Working under Zombie’s supervision, rOOm’s on-line editor and VFX artist Bill Pollock used the DS to provide subtle color correction and create several visual effects.
“For this video, the total conform controls of the Nitris DS were a huge asset,” recalls Pollock. “They allowed me to create effects and re-size images on-line and in real-time, and also see Jeff’s off-line cut without having to create or refer back to a separate Edit Decision List, or EDL. This saved a lot of time. The Avid is very user friendly and I used the DS to create all of the picture-in-picture effects like the split screen and also perform some subtle color correction. It was a very smooth process and Rob was very pleased with the results. Fans are really going to enjoy his new project and we at rOOm are privileged to have contributed to it.”
