On Monday, April 24, 2006, Carole Schumacher announced that she had sold Schumacher Camera to long-time employees, James Pope and Mike Acuña.
"Actually, the transition from employees to co-owners has been taking place gradually for quite some time," Schumacher said. "The key change is really one of ownership. Customers will now deal directly with the owners of the company."
Pope and Acuña have been running the day-to-day operations for the past few years, as Carole Schumacher eased into a part-time schedule. This year, she decided it was time for the next generation to take over. Pope and Acuña were ready.
Having been with the company for a combined twenty-two years, both are steeped in the traditions, policies and procedures of Schumacher Camera
. And Schumacher, who has spent the last 15 years leading the company, was ready to pursue other interests that she’d put aside.
As partners, Pope will handle the business side of the company, working with DPs and producers, while Acuña will continue to head up the technical side, making sure that equipment is in working order and orders are ready when promised. Their jobs will overlap in some areas, such as researching and purchasing new gear, training clients on equipment, as well as making sure customers have what they need to do their jobs. Carole Schumacher has agreed to continue as creative director, overseeing ad campaigns and branding.
Established in 1991, Schumacher is a Chicago-based motion picture camera rental house with a reputation for meticulously maintained custom camera packages. The company offers 35mm/16mm/DV and HD camera packages.
