What are the underlying technologies in HD DVD and Blu-Ray that impact the consumer experience? What products and film titles feature the newest innovations? What tools and technologies need to be developed and implemented to make the most of next generation DVD format? What does MPEG 4 bring to next generation DVD? How can special postproduction tools such as Film Grain Technology maximize bandwidth and disk space while improving what audiences see? How can postproduction pre-processing solutions further improve visual quality?
These questions will be answered during an afternoon session at the 2006 Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Technical Conference and Exhibition that looks at the two current HD formats -- Blu-Ray and HD DVD -- the issues they give rise to in production, postproduction, delivery to the home and home networking and their competition to win market leadership.
