Digital Storage Proves Problematic

With the proliferation of movies being shot digitally -- not just a low-budget indies or the occasional big-budget experiment -- studios and filmmakers are bumping up against an unexpected problem: how to best archive all this digital material
.

With new technologies and workflows being introduced every year, no clear, reliable process exists for storing digital footage, and "the industry is using a hodgepodge of improvised solutions," according to David Cohen of Variety. Ironically, although digital is the wave of the future, at present the best method for archiving movies may be old-fashioned 35mm film.
