Cooke Optics /i Technology Goes Live on RED ONE Camera
By Staff, September 19, 2008

Cooke Optics' /i Technology has been integrated into RED Digital Cinema's RED ONE cameras and is available on all RED ONEs shipped since Sept. 12.

Jarred Land, fire chief at RED, announced online that all new RED ONE cameras would come with /i pins installed and fully functional.

Cooke’s /i “Intelligent” Technology enables PL-mounted film and digital cameras to automatically record key lens and camera data for every film frame, using /i equipped lenses, which can then be provided digitally to postproduction teams. Since the RED ONE camera has built-in /i support via contacts in the RED camera lens mount for direct metadata capture, there is no need for an additional equipment interface.

The technology streamlines both production and post, saving significant time and money and eliminating guesswork while enabling greater creative freedom.

It was at NAB 2007 that Cooke Optics announced that RED Digital Cinema had incorporated support for /i Technology into its camera specs.

Les Zellan, chairman of Cooke Optics, says, “We are delighted that /i Technology is now live on the RED ONE. With schedules tighter than ever and demands for higher image quality, the need for production and post to work closely together has never been more important. The RED ONE camera is all about using digital technology to streamline processes and create the best possible images, and the /i capability amply fulfills that criteria.”
