Greater functionality in lower-cost production tools will be in evidence at NAB as broadcasters, producers and independent filmmakers adjust to a weakening economy with tighter budgets and timeframes. Camera manufacturers especially are showing expanded professional feature sets at lower price points with products that aim to help facilities migrate to HD production. Following are some of the production tool highlights scheduled to debut at this year’s show. Next month, we’ll take a look at postproduction solutions at NAB.
ANTON/BAUER’s product introductions include the QR-RH RED ONE Handle, Dionic HC high-current camera battery and DT-500, a 500-watt power supply. Designed by Anton/Bauer in conjunction with Fletcher Camera & Lenses, the QR-RH RED ONE Handle features Anton/Bauer’s Gold Mount, which provides multiple mounting options and the ability to mount the RED Drive in various locations. It also allows the opportunity to attach various accessories to the camera’s handle via 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 tapped holes. The Dionic HC battery is capable of up to 10 amps. With an 85 watt-hour capacity, a built-in LCD real-time fuel gauge tracks up to nine hours of run time. The DT-500 power supply meets the power requirements of Sony F23 and F35 HD cameras.
From BALCAR QUARTZCOLOR COKIN, Balcar launches the Roundy fluorescent ring light, which produces direct light without shadows or hot spots. The 55W power allows a wider choice of f-stops, so better control of the depth of field. Light intensity is controlled by a built-in dimmer, which does not affect color temperature. Strand Quartzcolor brings its OneLight range of HMI PAR and Fresnel spotlights. This all-in-one concept features integrated ballast and igniter. Units may be controlled remotely by DMX module. Cokin launches the M-PRO filter series for high-definition lenses and sensors. The range, available in most common sizes, is compatible with most matte boxes.
BRIGHT SYSTEMS, a developer of disk recording and data infrastructure technology, will debut its BrightDrive G2 file-based recording system incorporated with BrightClip Recording Technology at NAB. BrightDrive Gen2 allows multiple users to centrally access and work on the same media files simultaneously, with stable and reliable high-speed performance at any resolution or file format, including 4K.
The Broadcast and Communications division of CANON USA will be showing the HJ14ex4.3B wide-angle portable HDTV lens and the BU-50H remote-control robotic indoor pan-tilt HD camera system at the show.
