Sans Digital, a provider of high-performance storage subsystems, is introducing a new storage expansion solution by utilizing its newly designed AccuRAID AR212SX/AR316SX arrays and unique 1-to-4 fan-out SAS cables. This infrastructure is capable of up to 144TB (AR212SX) or 192TB (AR316SX) of additional storage volume per dual-port adapter, which helps effectively solve storage capacity shortage without the need to invest in expansive hardware.

With exponential growth in the use of digital content, upgrading storage capacity at a low cost is a continuous challenge. The AccuRAID AR212SX/AR316SX SAS rackmounts are economical storage solutions in 2U/12-bay and 3U/16-bay form factors for data-heavy situations such as DVR and surveillance file storage. This new AccuRAID series accepts high-capacity SATA I/II hard drives and utilizes RAID 6 for the most powerful data redundancy.
To achieve maximum scalability and to simplify the integration process, Sans Digital is releasing a convenient 1-to-4 mini-SAS (SFF-8088) cable to allow the connection of up to eight AR212SX/AR316SX arrays to a host server with one dual-port LSI SAS adapter (LSISAS3801E for PCIe and LSISAS3801X for PCI-X).
The arrays operate independent from each other, where a single array could be put to use in the initial phase and more arrays could be added at a later time with individualized settings. System integrators now have the option of adding storage arrays as storage demand increases, without the need to reconfigure volume settings. This innovative multi-target connection is also the least vulnerable, where a single unit failure would not affect the data availability of other units.
Although more economical than other rackmounts, the AR212SX/AR316SX utilizes the same high-performance RAID engine used in previous AccuRAID models, and at the same time takes advantage of advanced features such as embedded Web interface, online expansion and modularized components.
“Enterprises of various sizes are constantly in search of an ideal storage system that is cost-effective yet scalable,” says Sans Digital president Grandy Chen. “This new AccuRAID series, along with the newly designed fan-out SAS cable, allows the possibility of a straightforward infrastructure design that is simple to maintain and scale up.”
