New West Coast Documentary & Reality Conference comes to L.A. in Sept.

Santa Monica, CA – WESTDOC: The West Coast Documentary and Reality Conference, making its debut September 14 through September 16 in Santa Monica, is gaining momentum as founders Producer/Director Chuck Braverman and Solid Entertainment President Richard Propper sign a stellar list of participants.    

Among the roster of networks and cablers attending are ABC, Animal Planet, PBS’s American Masters, Discovery Channel, Discovery Science Channel, Lifetime, Spike,=2 0TV-Land, History Channel, local KCET, National Geographic, WE, Game Show Network, E!,  
MTV, and Oregon Public TV.

Braverman and Propper are likewise working with an impressive group of cooperating sponsors that includes the International Documentary Association (
IDA); the Canadian documentary festival Hot Docs; London-based publisher C21 Media; international media trade paper and site World Screen News; National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP); and AFI/Discovery Channel’s Silverdocs.

As the market for documentaries and reality TV grows exponentially, Braverman and Propper recognize the need for a new conference and the efficiency of hosting it in the Los Angeles area whe re a large base of the industry operates. WESTDOC
is the only conference on the West Coast dedicated to people working and aspiring to work in the non-fiction and reality genres.

WESTDOC
will host 40-plus panels and seminars the first two days in two interchangeable arenas: The Documentary Village and The Reality Village.  Both sites will feature network and cable executives discussing their upcoming schedules and future programming needs amid seminar titles that include: “Getting the Network’s Attention,” “From Indie to Oscar Nominee,” “Secrets of Superstar Producers,” and “What do HBO, FOX, Discovery, TLC, really Want?”  

The third day of WESTDOC
centers on PitchFest.  This will be an opportunity for documentary and reality producers to pitch concepts before a live audience to network and development executives for potential acquisition.
