Grass Valley Debuts New Features for MediaFUSE Automated Content Repurposing Platform
September 11, 2009

The Grass Valley MediaFUSE Automated Content Repurposing Platform will have several new and significant features which are designed to make the process of repurposing video and textual content for the Internet and mobile broadcasting even faster and more efficient than before.

MediaFUSE is a hardware and software option for the Grass Valley’s Ignite Integrated Production System. By making use of a common tool set that both technical and non-technical users can quickly master, broadcasters of all sizes can automate both the live production and the multi-distribution of content in near-instantaneous time frames.

For traditional broadcasters, the Internet and mobile distribution promises expanding viewership and new demographics, as well as the opportunity to recapture advertising revenues that are fragmenting into new distribution channels. Repurposing content for Internet and mobile use can be a labor intensive and time consuming endeavor.

MediaFUSE is designed to make the process of repurposing content, and processing “raw” and extended play content much easier to accomplish. Additionally, MediaFUSE provides broadcasters the ability to Webcast live, and to replace breaks and other segments with content that is more appropriate for the distribution medium. Creating exponentially more content, and sending it to multiple outlets is the key to fully monetizing the Web and mobile delivery mediums.

One of the newest MediaFUSE features is enhanced image processing. This feature greatly assists in the creation of slide-shows—a series of stills images from videos—which contain textual descriptions, and multiple banner ad opportunities per slide.

Another new MediaFUSE feature is a rich textual story editor that can be used in pre-production, or in postproduction, by non-technical users to add HTML-coded textual stories to accompany posted video stories. As with all of the extended metadata that accompanies content produced by MediaFUSE, these textual stories are transferred in standard XML format into many of the content management and publishing platforms in use by broadcasters today.

Additionally, new enhancements to MediaFUSE include improved content pre- and post-roll stitching, improved iNEWS and ENPS operation, and advanced controls for content repurposing from within the Ignite Integrated Production System.

MediaFUSE is available now, and the enhanced features shown at IBC will be available via software update before the end of September 2009.

About the MediaFUSE System
The Grass Valley MediaFUSE system is offered in a base package that includes the hardware and software required for Ignite version 5.2+ users to automate the process for re-purposing content for live streaming with content replacement, and for on-demand delivery of content via FTP. A full range of options are available to increase the encoding and transcoding capacity, interface to supported advertising traffic management systems, and interface to select third-party content management systems.

About the Ignite System
The Grass Valley Ignite HD system can be ordered with one to four M/Es, up to 32 control ports, and is completely scalable from 24 to 96 video inputs and 24 to 96 audio inputs, The control room system offers an integrated Grass Valley Kayak HD video switcher, audio mixer, and teleprompter that simplifies production and allows a single operator to run an entire newscast. Optional Kayak and Kayenne XL video and audio panels are available for those broadcasters who want to employ a manually operated system, as is the option to use selected third-party audio mixer panels.
