UVPHACTORY and Spatial View Bring Glasses-Free 3D to the iPhone
February 26, 2010

Spatial View and UVPHACTORY joined creative forces to debut a glasses-free 3D music video for the iPhone in time for the Grammy Awards.

Earlier this year, UVPHACTORY designed and created a 2D CG music video for The Crystal Method’s "Drown in the Now," which features the vocals of Hasidic superstar Matisyahu. The stark black and white, post-apocalyptic Brooklyn environment through which Matisyahu travels in the original video lent itself perfectly to a 3D stereoscopic version. After UVPHACTORY created the video in stereo 3D, Spatial View adapted it for use with its 3DeeSlide, an iPhone/iPod Touch accessory based on Spatial View's proprietary lenticular technology.

Spatial View is a pioneer in 3D image processing and auto-stereoscopic displays. Beat Raemy, CEO at Spatial View, says, “Our focus is to enable people to enjoy a natural and affordable 3D visual media experience across a variety of platforms, including mobile and personal computers.”

In November 2009, Spatial View partnered with Sony Music Entertainment Germany for the Sony Blu-ray disc forsenses. Users of iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch (second generation or later) who buy a bundle with 3DeeSlide can download and watch stereo 3D excerpts on their mobile devices.

The creative team at UVPH is excited to work with Spatial View, where they can explore new platforms of entertainment. “We have always taken pride in positioning ourselves at the forefront of technology. After our successful venture with Bjork’s ‘Wanderlust’ video in 3D, we think our Crystal Method video with Matisyahu is an ideal choice to further enhance our stereoscopic division,” says Scott Sindorf, co-founder of UVPHACTORY.

Dimitris Athos, 3D stereoscopic producer of UVPHACTORY, comments, “Glasses-free 3D—autostereoscopic—adds another tool to our 3D stereo palette. Our 3D delivery capabilities now range from iPhone to IMAX.”

y the hell is 'hollywood' trying to convince people that a gimmic from the past is the future?? no need to latch onto a fad/gimmic to be artistic. i've loved 3d for over a decade, but this industry is abusing the hell out of 3d now, and in very unimpressive ways. with the exception of avatar and a couple of animations. there has been no real effective use of 3d recently. but this seems an interesting way to go about it. the only future winners with 3d, in my opinion, would be in animation-gaming (massive headaches ahead)and imax.
