Nola Crafts Intro for 2010 CFDA Awards
July 22, 2010

Nola Pictures crafted a bold visual introduction for the Womenswear Designer of the Year presentation at the 2010 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards. Working via KCD Worldwide, director/designer Juan Delcan and director/cinematographer/photographer Kenny Morrison led the Nola team in the delivery of concept, design, photography, editorial and post for the 1:45 sequence.

Displaying his ability to adapt to any environment or medium, Delcan specially designed a 28 sq. ft. visual to take advantage of the unique stage architecture at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York. The piece opens with a slender woman's silhouette behind a white curtain. A light swings across the screen, dramatic music tunes up and the scene shifts to a stylized photographic panorama of the Brooklyn Bridge set against a stunning backdrop of water and sky. Delcan shot these images and adapted them to the special parameters of the stage screen.

As the nominees' names flash across the screen—Alexander Wang, Donna Karan and eventual winner Marc Jacobs—an armada of female models parades across the bridge's top and bottom decks wearing the designers' latest styles. Morrison photographed these sequences, and then Nola's post crew comped them together, working in time with live models crossing the stage as the nominees were announced. The 1:45 sequence ends with a model walking upward as a cloud follows her, blacking out the sky.

This intro is only one of many Nola efforts for the CFDA Fashion Awards. Previous undertakings include an animated conversation between Zac Posen and Joan Kaner, Emerging Designer Award intros, and a cinematic profile of Carolina Herrera.

"The CFDA is obviously attuned to the look of every aspect of its most high-profile event, and it is a testament to Juan, Kenny and the rest of the team that they have returned yet again," notes Curran. "What clients get at Nola that's hard to find anywhere else, however, is a top-flight creative group that works directly alongside a full-service production, editorial and post studio."
