ARRI D-20 on The Andromeda Strain: Data Drives the Production of A&E's Miniseries
A satellite crashes to earth containing an incredibly deadly pathogen and a team of top scientists must find a way to neutralize its effects before it can wipe out the human race. This was the premise of bestselling author Michael Crichton's first novel and Robert Wise's 1971 film adaptation, and now the story returns as a four-hour remake for A&E Network starring Benjamin Bratt, Eric McCormack and Christa Miller. Just as the new take on this science-fiction thriller updates some of the gadgets that wowed audiences four decades ago, the filmmakers made use of some cutting-edge camera technology, too, by shooting principally with the ARRI D-20 and making use of the high-speed Vision Research Phantom and the tiny Iconix HD camera.

Surfwise: Doug Pray Assembles a Fractured Family Story
Filmmaker Doug Pray wasn't sure what he was getting into when he agreed to make a film about the Paskowitz family. A doctor by profession, Paskowitz dropped out of what he saw as a sick society and embarked on a vagabond existence without financial commitments in order to travel the country and surf wherever he wanted.

Seduction, Scandal and RGB Sensors: Digital Capture for The Other Boleyn Girl

The saga of Anne (Natalie Portman), Mary (Scarlett Johansson) and Henry (Eric Bana) plays out in The Other Boleyn Girl, directed by Justin Chadwick and shot using Panavision's Genesis technology by Kieran McGuigan.

Monster Movie
What if the only surviving witness to a monumental emergency situation was a consumer video camera? This basic concept serves as the storytelling approach to Director Matt Reeves' Cloverfield, the smartly marketed Paramount monster movie that was recently unleashed in theaters. And the filmmakers involved used some very high-tech gear, including the Thomson Grass Valley Viper and the Sony F23, to intentionally achieve the picture's low-tech, "prosumer video" look.

The story begins as though we are watching a tape made by a character who has his camcorder in hand to capture a party with friends, but he instead ends up documenting a skyscraper-smashing assault the city by a monstrous enemy (whose attributes Paramount did not care to share at press time).
