John Galt, Panavision
Senior vice president of the Advanced Digital Imaging Group inside Panavision, John Galt came to the company in 1999 to start its electronic cinematography group, having previously spent 10 years with an R&D group at Sony. In his seminar series, "Demystifying Digital Camera Specifications," Galt addresses the new language of filmmaking.

NAB 2008 Wrap Up: Editing and Post
In spite of all the interest in new editing features, this year was more about chasing the camera manufacturers. Sure, RED has captured a lot of press, but the thing that interests most editors is whether their chosen NLE can support the various mainstream, file-based camera systems out today. NLE vendors are chasing a quickly moving target as they try to anticipate which new codec or transport medium will reach a critical mass requiring post support at the professional level.

NAB 2008 Wrap Up: Cameras and Lenses
At NAB in 2008, as every year, the technology bar was raised a bit higher. There were a number of long-anticipated cameras that finally made their NAB debut, just as there were several "new cameras" that were actually just incremental upgrades and "concept cameras" that are currently more concept than camera. There were also fewer cameras that record primarily to tape, and most that still do also offer one or more tapeless recording options.

Art History: Postproduction on The Cool School
From 1957 to 1966, the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles was a hub of the modern art movement on the West Coast. The space and the eclectic group of artists who showed their abstract paintings, collages and "assemblages" of old car parts and pieces of bent plastic never quite found the international renown of their New York counterparts, but, in retrospect, they clearly did have a lasting impact on the art world. The documentary The Cool School, directed by Morgan Neville, combines elements of the gallery founders' rise and acrimonious fall and also touches on the artists, their work and their difficulty finding appreciation in the conservative movie colony that was mid-century Los Angeles.
